"Life is Good"

Life gets so very busy. Work and school activities and family get togethers and community events... the list goes on and on. It seems sometimes like I have to schedule time to take a break and just be, but then a day like today comes along. A day when miraculously we have nothing major written down on the calendar, no major plans on the agenda. A day when we can hang out at home, take a lazy afternoon drive and rest in the pleasure of having absolutely nothing to do.

Going for a lazy afternoon drive is a favorite past time in our family. We pile up in the car and go for a cruise in the country surrounding our small town or wherever we happen to be staying if we are away for a weekend trip or a vacation. We gander at the countryside, my husband stopping to take photos of things that catch his eye along the way. Sometimes we sing to music on the radio. Sometimes we drive around in peaceful silence, and sometimes we end up having some very interesting conversations such as today when our nine-year-old son surprised us with a challenge.

He had brought his notebook along with him for the drive to "write and sketch in" and created a page with "Life is Good" written across the top in block letters and a blank list of 24 items to be filled in by the three of us. It was a fun activity, and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the blessings we came up with for our "good life".
  1. The hot tub
  2. God's grace
  3. Christian music
  4. Family
  5. School to learn important stuff
  6. Freedom
  7. Ground to stand on
  8. Blue skies
  9. Coffee
  10. Good books
  11. Food to eat
  12. Our home
  13. Finding something unique
  14. Our car
  15. Fall leaves
  16. Trees
  17. Daisies
  18. Clothes to wear
  19. Church
  20. Cats
  21. A life to live
  22. Singing
  23. A good song on the radio
  24. Seeing a cute face
Life is good, and it's filled with everyday blessings big and small. Sometimes we just need a lazy afternoon, a drive in the country and the innocent wisdom of a child to remind us to be present in the moment and count our blessings.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17
